Where it all began . . .
On November 15, 1901 at Longwood College in Farmville, VA, five women organized Alpha Sigma Alpha sorority.
The five founders were:

Calva Watson Wooton,

Juliette Hundley Gilliam,

Louise Cox Carper,
-
Mary Williamson Hundley and,
-
Virginia Boyd Noell.
Each of the women were extended invitations to join the other existing sororities on campus, but they would not have been together. Together these 5 women decided to start Alpha Sigm Alpha.
And where it continues to today . . .
In the fall of 1998, a group of women (very much like our Founders), were looking for something more that what was being offered in their college Greek community. ​By a unanimous vote, the interested women voted to have Alpha Sigma Alpha colonize on the Lynchburg College Campus and the colony was established on October 28, 1998.
Through hard work and determination, the colony was installed as the Zeta Upsilon Chapter of Alpha Sigma Alpha on April 10, 1999.
